While we always strive to save your natural teeth, there are times when a tooth needs to be extracted. This may be due to damage or decay, impaction, overcrowding or in preparation for orthodontic treatment. When the removal of a tooth is necessary, your comfort is a priority. Our practice offers local anesthesia, oral sedation and laughing gas. We will work with you to determine what kind of sedation best meets your needs.
Before removing any tooth, we will take an X-ray in order to plan the extraction. We will use special dental tools to carefully yet quickly pull the tooth from the socket. During this time, you should feel little-to-no pain. Once the tooth is out, we focus on healing. You will be instructed to bite on a gauze pad for 30 to 45 minutes to control bleeding and help form a blood clot. It will be important not to disturb this blood clot, so you will be instructed to avoid smoking, using a straw, consuming drugs and alcohol and exercise during this time. Once you are home, you can reduce swelling by applying an ice pack for up to 20 minutes at a time. We recommend eating soft foods during the recovery process.
Crown Dental Care also provides wisdom teeth extractions. Wisdom teeth usually erupt in the late teens or early twenties. These are almost always removed as there is little space for them inside the mouth. For your comfort, our office offers local anesthesia, oral sedation and laughing gas.
