Germantown and Rockville Location
Dr. Thy Nguyen ("Dr. T" to his staff and patients) was born in Vietnam. He moved to the United States when he was eight years old and grew up in Gaithersburg, Maryland. After earning his bachelor's degree in biology from The George Washington University, Dr. Nguyen received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Maryland Dental School in Baltimore. He was a member of the Gamma Pi Delta Prosthodontic Honor Society and was elected president for the Gorgas Odontological Honorary Society, a merit-based organization for dental students ranked in the top one-third of their class.
Read MoreDr. Nguyen continued his dental education by completing a residency in Advanced General Dentistry in Baltimore. During his residency, he was elected chief resident by his colleagues and was awarded the Harry W. Dressel Jr. Award for clinical proficiency and total patient care. He also began volunteering his time and skills by participating in local community health fairs.
Dr. Nguyen still has a passion for giving back and continues to volunteer both locally and internationally. As a member of the non-profit organization Operation Smile, he traveled to Hanoi, Vietnam and performed free dental work for poor and deaf children. He went on another missionary trip to the Dominican Republic in November 2014 with the International Dental Implant Association to place dental implants for the underprivileged.
Dr. Nguyen has completed three times the required continuing education by the Maryland State Dental Board in the latest dental advancement, including placing and restoring dental implants and short-term cosmetic orthodontics (straight teeth in six months). He is an active member of:
Dr. Nguyen and his wife live in Clarksburg with their dog Luna and their two daughters, Madeline "Maddie" and Elodie "Ellie". In their spare time, they like to go camping, hiking, and snowboarding. They also love to travel and to experience new and different cuisines.
Germantown and Rockville Location
Dr. Barton Santos is a clinical instructor at the Rosenthal Institute’s Aesthetic Advantage in New York University. He is one of the youngest faculty to teach dentists cosmetic and comprehensive rehabilitative dentistry worldwide. His focus is minimally invasive and conservative techniques using the latest technology for aesthetic smile design with veneers, onlays, crowns, & bridges. He has completed the Clinical Mastery Series curriculum mastering functional dentistry, complex cases, and full mouth rehabilitation. He is an active member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, the Academy of General Dentistry, Alpha Omega Dental Fraternity, Temple Dental Alumni Association, and Facial Art Dental Forum.
Read MoreDr. Santos comes from a family of dentists. Two of his grandparents, along with two uncles and his aunt are all prosthodontists . His passion for dentistry grew from watching his family treating patients and transforming their smiles. Dr. Santos graduated from Temple University School of Dentistry serving as Student Government Class President. He has completed his fellowship in implant placement and is accredited with the International Dental Implant Association. He utilizes the most up-to-date techniques incorporating PRP, and 3D imaging for extractions, bone grafting, and advanced implant placement. Dr. Santos is also certified in minimal oral sedation and Invisalign treatment.
Dr. Santos is an active member of the dental charity organization, 1,000 Smiles. He has participated in this mission for the past five years as an instructor providing free dental care to the under-served populations throughout various parishes of Jamaica. In his spare time he enjoys playing the piano, exercising, and cooking.
Rockville Location
Originally from Boston, Dr. Hopkins completed her undergraduate studies at Harvard University. She earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree at the University of Maryland, where she graduated summa cum laude, at the top of her class, and was inducted into the prestigious Omicron Kappa Upsilon honor society. During dental school, Dr. Hopkins was heavily involved in community service through her role as president of the Hispanic Dental Association. She also embarked on a mission trip to provide free dental care to underserved populations in Honduras.
Read MoreFollowing graduation, Dr. Hopkins completed a postdoctoral residency at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in DC where she pursued advanced training in oral surgery, endodontics, restorative and cosmetic dentistry, and prosthodontics. Her husband was then stationed at a military base in Arizona where she joined a multi-disciplinary private practice. With a new set of orders, Dr. Hopkins is happy to find herself back in Maryland and looking forward to remaining in the area for the foreseeable future.
Dr. Hopkins continues to participate in advanced education through well-recognized training institutes such Spear Education and Implant Pathways. She is also a member of the Academy of General Dentistry, is certified in Invisalign treatment, and is progressing toward her fellowship in the International Congress of Oral Implantologists.
Dr. Hopkins strives to provide the highest quality of care in a friendly, comfortable, and fun environment while educating and empowering every patient she treats. She sees dentistry as a partnership between doctor and patient, taking the time to listen and understand her patients’ needs and concerns in order to help them achieve their oral and overall health goals.
Beyond serving patients, Dr. Hopkins enjoys pursuing athletic activities with her husband Scott, including running, cycling, backpacking, and skiing. She is also a serious dog lover and has a French Bulldog named Luigi who is training to be Crown Dental Care’s therapy dog.
